This two-part lecture/demo, developed by the Merrithew™ team, explores the anatomy and biomechanics involved in a normal healthy functioning lumbo-pelvic region then applies these fundamentals in an effort to optimize function.
Part A: Form and function
This covers the functional anatomy and therapeutic foundational concepts within the context of the lumbar spine, the pelvis, the hip and all associated musculature.
Part B: Programming and application of STOTT PILATES exercises
This applies the theory learned in part A and attempts to identify programming priorities and determine appropriate exercises designed to optimize the function of the lumbo-pelvic region.
Learning objectives
Part A: Form and function
Understand the integrated model of joint stability within the context of the lumbo-pelvic region
Understand the functional muscle classification system within the context of the lumbo-pelvic region
Review the functional anatomy of the lumbo-pelvic region
Understand current concepts of stability and review stabilization strategies for the lumbo-pelvic region
Part B: Programming and application of STOTT PILATES exercises
Understand programming goals and exercise management for the lumbo-pelvic region
Learn how to apply STOTT PILATES biomechanical principles of core stability, breathing and alignment to all exercises
Learn exercise goals, muscular initiation and movement sequencing to maximize outcomes
Develop recognition of optimal and non-optimal movement patterns
Learn effective communication, verbal cues and imagery for performance enhancement and corrective strategies
Note, Parts A and B must be completed together in a full 6-hour format.
Cost for workshop is $350, plus HI state tax.
